- Nike introduced the Netherlands' 2014 home jersey to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Royal Dutch Football Association, founded in 1889. The traditional orange shirt featured a redesigned white lion crest inspired by earlier national-team emblems, alongside a crown detail inside the collar. Launched ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the clean design also featured distinctive lettering and numbering developed by Dutch graphic designer Wim Crouwel. Under Louis van Gaal, the Netherlands opened the tournament with a memorable 5–1 victory over defending champions Spain, followed by wins against Australia and Chile to finish first in Group B. The team subsequently defeated Mexico and Costa Rica before losing to Argentina on penalties in the semifinals. A 3–0 victory over hosts Brazil secured third place, with Robin van Persie, Daley Blind, and Georginio Wijnaldum scoring. The orange Nike shirt remains closely associated with the performances of Arjen Robben, Van Persie, and Wesley Sneijder during that World Cup campaign.
