After winning the 1994 Copa do Brasil, Grêmio entered the 1995 Copa Libertadores and advanced through the knockout rounds, eliminating Palmeiras and Emelec before facing Atlético Nacional in the final. A 3–1 home victory in Porto Alegre followed by a 1–1 draw in Medellín secured a 4–2 aggregate win and Grêmio's second Copa Libertadores title, following their first triumph in 1983. The squad featured Jardel, Paulo Nunes, Dinho, and captain Adílson, representing one of the club's most successful generations. The white Penalty away design, with its asymmetric blue-and-black graphics and Renner sponsorship, reflects the distinctive shirt styling of Grêmio's mid-1990s era.
