- The 2002/03 season marked Manchester City's return to the Premier League following its promotion as First Division champions. Managed by Kevin Keegan, the club entered the campaign with renewed expectations after an impressive previous season. Le Coq Sportif continued as kit supplier, retaining the traditional sky-blue color while incorporating navy and white detailing. The First Advice sponsor replaced the EIDOS branding seen during the preceding campaign, giving the home jersey a distinct identity within the club's early-2000s kit collection.
- The 2002/03 campaign was particularly significant because it was Manchester City's final season at Maine Road, the club's home stadium since 1923. City finished ninth in the Premier League with 51 points from 38 matches, securing a comfortable mid-table position on its return to the top division. The final competitive match at Maine Road took place on May 11, 2003, against Southampton, before the club relocated to the City of Manchester Stadium for the following season. The 2002/03 home jersey therefore represents both a successful top-flight return and the closing chapter of an important stadium era.
