Spain topped their group despite a 1-1 opening draw with Italy, then advanced past France and edged Portugal on penalties in the semi-finals after a goalless draw. The final against Italy in Kyiv turned into the most one-sided result in European Championship history, with Spain winning 4-0 behind goals from David Silva, Jordi Alba, Fernando Torres, and Juan Mata.
