- This away jersey belongs to Japan's 2006-07 period, beginning after a disappointing group-stage exit at the 2006 World Cup in Germany under manager Zico, where Japan lost to Australia, drew with Croatia and were beaten by Brazil. Following the tournament, Zico departed and was replaced by experienced Bosnian coach Ivica Osim, who took charge for the first time in 2006 and began reshaping the squad ahead of the 2007 AFC Asian Cup.
- At the 2007 Asian Cup in Vietnam, Japan topped their group with wins over Qatar, the UAE and Vietnam, then beat co-hosts Australia in the quarter-finals in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. Japan's run ended in the semi-finals with a 3-2 loss to Saudi Arabia, and the team went on to lose the third-place playoff to South Korea on penalties following a goalless draw, finishing fourth overall. Made by adidas, this jersey is tied to the early stages of the Osim era, a period of transition for the Japanese national team.
