Under manager Vicente del Bosque and president Florentino Perez, the Galacticos project continued with the club-record signing of Brazilian striker Ronaldo from Inter Milan for around 45 million euros. Ronaldo scored twice on his debut in October 2002 and went on to finish as the club's top scorer with 23 league goals, playing alongside fellow stars Zinedine Zidane and Raul.
- Real Madrid battled Real Sociedad for the title throughout the season, ultimately clinching their 29th La Liga championship on the final matchday with a 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao, finishing two points clear.
