Argentina withdrew entirely, citing safety risks, and were replaced by Honduras, while Canada also pulled out and were replaced by Costa Rica.
- Amid the tension, Colombia produced a near-perfect campaign, going through the entire tournament without conceding a single goal, with striker Victor Aristizabal finishing as top scorer on six. In the final at Bogota's Estadio El Campin, defender and captain Ivan Ramiro Cordoba headed home the only goal of the match to beat Mexico 1-0, securing Colombia's first-ever Copa America title.
