- This jersey marks 138 years since the founding of Celtic Football Club in Glasgow in 1888 by Brother Walfrid, an Irish Marist brother, who established the club to raise funds for poor children in the city's East End, particularly within the area's large Irish immigrant community. That charitable origin remains central to Celtic's identity, and the club's green and white colors, along with symbols like the four-leaf clover, continue to reflect its Irish heritage.
- Since then, Celtic has grown into one of the most successful and widely supported clubs in Scottish football, most famously becoming the first British club to win the European Cup in 1967 with the legendary 'Lisbon Lions' squad, entirely made up of players born within 30 miles of Glasgow.
