- This away jersey belongs to Liverpool's 1999-2000 season, Gerard Houllier's first full campaign as sole manager after Roy Evans's departure the previous year. Following a disappointing seventh-place finish in 1998-99 that left the club without European football, Houllier made seven summer signings, including Sander Westerveld, Titi Camara, Erik Meijer and Vladimir Smicer, as he began reshaping the squad. Michael Owen led the line as top scorer, while a young Steven Gerrard, wearing the number 28, began to establish himself in the first team.
- Liverpool's form was inconsistent but steadily improving, and the club finished fourth in the Premier League, enough to secure UEFA Cup qualification for the following season. That platform proved crucial, as Houllier's rebuilding culminated the very next year in an unprecedented treble of the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup. Made by Reebok and sponsored by Carlsberg, this jersey's distinctive green colorway and diagonal sash design belong to the foundational season of Houllier's successful Liverpool project.
