- The 1996/97 season marked a significant transition for Arsenal, as Arsène Wenger took charge of the club midway through the campaign, beginning a management tenure that would go on to reshape the club over the following decades. This Nike home kit, with its clean red-and-white colour blocking, was worn during that pivotal period.
- The JVC sponsorship continued on Arsenal's shirts through the mid-to-late 1990s, remaining a fixture of the club's kits as the team built toward the success that would follow under Wenger in subsequent seasons, including the Premier League and FA Cup double in 1997/98.
