- The 1987/88 season followed Napoli's historic first Serie A title win in 1986/87, entitling the club to wear the tricolor scudetto shield on its shirts for the first time in its history. The kit was produced by Ennerre, the Italian manufacturer that supplied Napoli throughout much of the 1980s.
- The Buitoni sponsorship, associated with the Italian food company, ran on Napoli's shirts through several seasons during this period, becoming one of the most recognisable sponsor pairings in Italian football of the era. Napoli finished as runners-up in Serie A that season, narrowly missing a second consecutive title.

Solid sky blue body with a simple open v-neck collar in the same tonal blue. The Ennerre "nr" logo, framed by a green and red target-style emblem, sits on the left chest, opposite the tricolor scudetto shield awarded for the club's first Serie A title, embroidered above the crest position. The Buitoni sponsor wordmark is printed in large white bubble lettering across the centre chest. The left sleeve carries the round Napoli federation crest patch, while the interior collar holds a simple fabric composition tag.
