- The 1996-97 season saw Real Madrid claim the La Liga title under coach Fabio Capello, capping a domestically successful campaign for the club. This era of Real Madrid's kit history was defined by Kelme, the Spanish sportswear brand that supplied the club before adidas took over as kit manufacturer at the end of the decade, and its playful paw-print motif remains one of the more distinctive designs from the period.
- The badge on the sleeve is the official crest of the LFP, the Spanish professional football league, a patch commonly worn on La Liga kits throughout the 1990s to mark authorized league competition shirts. Alongside it, the navy Teka logo continues the appliance manufacturer's long-running sponsorship of Real Madrid, which spanned from 1982 to 2001 and appeared on the club's shirts through multiple league-winning seasons.
