- FC Porto entered the 2011/12 season on the back of one of the most successful campaigns in the club's history, having won the domestic league, the Portuguese Cup and the UEFA Europa League in 2010/11. The phrase "A Vencer Desde 1893" inside the collar, meaning "winning since 1893", referenced the year the club was founded and its long tradition of success.
- The 2011/12 season brought another Primeira Liga title, as Porto retained the championship and continued their dominance of Portuguese football during this era. Nike supplied the club's kits at the time, with telecommunications brands tmn and meo featuring as sponsors on the front and sleeves.
