- The 1996/97 season holds a special place in Rangers history, as the club won its ninth consecutive Scottish league title, equalling the long-standing record for successive championships in Scottish football. The achievement capped a remarkable decade of domestic dominance and made this shirt one of the most cherished in the club's long history.
- During this era Rangers were kitted out by adidas, with McEwan's Lager as shirt sponsor in a partnership that ran through much of the late 1980s and 1990s. Alongside the league title, the club also lifted the Scottish League Cup that season, adding further silverware to a memorable campaign at Ibrox.
