Managed by Mark Warburton, Rangers won the Scottish Championship and secured promotion to the Scottish Premiership after four seasons outside the top flight. The squad included captain Lee Wallace, James Tavernier, Martyn Waghorn, Kenny Miller, Barrie McKay, Andy Halliday, and Jason Holt. Waghorn finished as the club's leading league scorer with 23 goals, while Rangers combined attacking football with consistent results to seal the championship.
- Rangers also won the Scottish Challenge Cup, defeating Peterhead 4–0 at Hampden Park on 10 April 2016. In the Scottish Cup semifinals, they overcame Old Firm rivals Celtic on penalties following a 2–2 draw after extra time, reaching the final against Hibernian. Rangers lost the final 3–2 on 21 May 2016 after a late winner from David Gray.
