- Manchester United introduced this black Nike away design for the 2003/04 season and retained it for 2004/05. The shirt combined a subtle repeating tonal pattern with white collar and cuff details, Nike branding, and Vodafone sponsorship. Under Sir Alex Ferguson, United finished third in the Premier League in both seasons, with a squad that included Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Rio Ferdinand, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who arrived from Sporting CP in the summer of 2003. The 2003/04 campaign ended with an FA Cup triumph, as United defeated Millwall 3–0 in Cardiff on 22 May 2004, with Ronaldo opening the scoring and Van Nistelrooy adding two goals. During 2004/05, Wayne Rooney became another key member of the squad following his arrival from Everton. United again reached the FA Cup final but lost to Arsenal on penalties after a goalless draw. The black Nike shirt remains a distinctive example of the club's early-2000s away designs, spanning Ronaldo's first two seasons in Manchester.
