- The 1998-99 season was Nike's first as Inter's kit supplier, and the club entered it with high hopes after winning the UEFA Cup in 1998. Roberto Baggio joined the squad, but the campaign proved turbulent, with several coaching changes following the dismissal of Luigi Simoni in the autumn. Inter reached the Champions League quarter-finals, where they were knocked out by Manchester United, and finished eighth in Serie A.
- Ronaldo wore the number 9 shirt in 1998-99 after wearing the number 10 in his first season at the club. With Baggio taking the 10, Iván Zamorano handed over the 9 to Ronaldo and famously wore 1+8 instead. Ronaldo, the reigning FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon d'Or holder from 1997, struggled with knee problems after the 1998 World Cup, yet still produced moments of brilliance. His pace, dribbling and finishing made him the most exciting striker in the world, and his Inter shirts remain among the most sought-after of the era.
