Product Stats
- The 1997-99 period followed the end of Kevin Keegan's "Entertainers" era at Newcastle United. Under Kenny Dalglish in 1997-98, the club competed in the Champions League for the first time, highlighted by a famous 3-2 win over Barcelona at St James' Park in which Faustino Asprilla scored a hat-trick. Newcastle went on to reach the 1998 FA Cup final, losing 2-0 to Arsenal. The following season, under Ruud Gullit, the club reached Wembley again in 1999, this time losing 2-0 to Manchester United.
- Alan Shearer joined his hometown club from Blackburn Rovers in 1996 for a then world-record fee and wore the number 9 shirt. He suffered a serious ankle injury in pre-season in 1997 and missed much of the first half of the 1997-98 campaign, but he returned to lead the line in the FA Cup run and scored the semi-final winner against Sheffield United. Shearer went on to become the club's all-time record goalscorer, and his #9 is the most iconic print in Newcastle's history.
- This home shirt stands out for its wide stripes, gold sleeve detailing and centred crest, a bold change from the grandad-collar design that came before it. The oval Newcastle Brown Ale sponsor remains one of the most beloved logos ever to appear on an English football shirt, and this was one of the last home designs to carry it. It appeals to Newcastle United supporters, Shearer fans, collectors of 1990s Premier League shirts and anyone who loves the classic Brown Ale era.
